Slavutych town in Chernobyl's shadow
Alexander Demidov, 61, sits with his friend, writer Stanislav Konstatinov 65, Chernobyl explosion in 1986. They were part of a massive team of "liquidators" responsible for the clean up of the nuclear fallout in the months and years that followed.
They have been living in Slavutych for the last decades. Demidov is suffering from multiple health problems in his lungs and joints, while Konstantinov is healthy.
Slavutych rises out of the ashes of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 26, 1986. People living near the disaster area were largely moved to the new city, built from scratch for the sole purpose of housing the population displaced by the nuclear accident.
