Former farmers shop in a shopping mall in urban China
Shopping has become a daily routine of former subsistence farmers whose land has been destroyed and urbanised by the government. These farmers were moved en masse into urban housing in southern China.
The Beijing government is urbanizing 100 million farmers in six years to break their cycle of growing only what they eat.
